About us

The Circus Space aims to enable the creation of a breadth of excellent and innovative circus in Britain.

It is a registered charity and a centre of excellence in the circus arts, working in partnership with the public and private sectors at local, regional and international levels to redefine perceptions of circus and broaden its appeal. The Circus Space is one of the top three circus schools in Europe and a member of the European Federation of Circus School
s and the UK's Circus Arts Forum.

We offer a diverse artistic programme that includes the UK's only degree level education in the circus arts; professional development opportunities for aspiring and established performers; participatory and leisure activities for young people and adults; and a varied performance programme, including the annual Circus Space Festival. We also provide affordable workspace for related arts companies and opportunities for private and public sector organisations to use circus skills as a staff development tool.

The Circus Space is based in a former electricity generating station in Hoxton that had lain derelict for over 30 years. The ongoing redevelopment of the building began in 1994 and is widely seen as a flagship project in the regeneration of the local area. To date £1.2m has been spent on developing the site, funds that have been raised from both public and private sources. Our two main spaces, the Generating Chamber the Combustion Chamber, have been transformed and now provide the finest facilities for circus training and production in the UK.
