Creative Exchange
The aim of the Creative Exchange Project at Circus Space is to bring established creative leaders - directors, writers, choreographers - into Circus Space to enable them to understand the structure, language and creative possibilities of the Circus Arts. The theme of ‘exchange’ is key – the director offers their skill and knowledge in return for the same from the artists so it is not a masterclass or an R&D opportunity. It is a chance for a director to practice working with circus or to explore a particular area of interest – narrative, transition, context, metaphor, quality of movement or subtext. As Rufus Norris, who inaugurated the Creative Exchanges, said – in order to be able to work confidently with circus directors and choreographers need a ‘Circus Education’.
Since 2009 over 45 Circus Artists have taken part in Creative Exchanges with Rufus Norris, Tom Morris and Melly Still, Jasmin Vardimon and Natalie Abrahami
Creative Exchange is funded by The Jerwood Charitable Foundation
